Why do you put liners on some of your blades and not on others?

To make the knives different looking? That why everyone does it.I can do combo liners to,say red/black ~ white /black~ red/white ect or singles in R/W/B

Thanks, really like you work. Thought that somehow liners might have some effect on durability of scales, etc.
