My first Randall … I think its vintage.

I ordered a Randall back around 2000, but ended up canceling the order after a year. I then found Busse and focused on those until now.

By chance I was walking into a friend’s gun shop and a customer was carrying in a Randall to place on consignment. This customer use to collect knives with the Owner’s father-in-law and thought the shop might want to take a higher end knife on consignment.

I spoke to the guy about it, and said he has a pretty large Randall collection and decided to let this one go. He just bought a replacement sheath for it, and said it’s a very vintage knife with a rare chrome finished blade. I know very little about Randall’s so I just accepted his comments at face value.

To cut through the chase, I ended up buying it yesterday.

Here she is …

There are some spots in the blade finish that leads me to believe it is chromed.

I welcome any and all comments.

I think it may be late 1970's based the blades shape where it meets the handle on the edge side.
Very nice, all my 1960 and 1970's blades have the same "peppering".
Great score, older is better 👍

I was reading on here about the handle spacer color indicating age. Is there a guide to this?
I have several books that cover everything from military and the history there of
to unique Randall's but spacers are covered in the Randall Chronicles book.

What you have a model 5-8 with 01 swedish tool steel blade.
To me, this knife looks to have been rehandled at some point.
The spacers, at least to me, are not what RMK would use in either colour, thickness or number.
The guard also may be a replacement, or reshaped when the stag was put on.
The choil may indicate 70's vintage as Mr. Pierson says, but this may also have been altered when rehandled.
Sheath is post 1995 genuine RMK.
Depite all this, it is an interesting piece and would make a great user if so desired.
Hope this helps.

Its a great blade with a beautiful piece of crown stag. Don’t be afraid to use it, and enjoy it.
