I actually used my hd for the exact same thing today but had already put it away and the edc was still on the belt.

This is my first try at an acid wash. Darker than I anticipated, but I’m rather happy with the result. Also had a ferro rod knot put in courtesy of REK Knives

5 mins & 20 - 30 seconds. The timer was set for 5:15 but I had to fish it out.
I threw it in a bucket of water within 10 seconds of it coming out of the acid. To stop the reaction.

well ya got guts for trying it for the first time on a knife like that lol I’d be so nervous that I would have to try it on a cheap knife first. Then still be nervous as hell doing it for real.

That ferro rod notch is a significant structural defect there. It cuts most of the way through the spine towards the fuller, creating a weak spot in one of the most highly loaded areas on the blade. I would not recommend people do this with their knife.
