Benchmade Fakes, knock-offs, counterfeits thread...

Looking at this one on Ebay. The label on the box says it's an auto Adamas and the pivot looks wrong. What do you guys think?

The hardware is all wrong, wrong thumb studs, wrong pivot screw and wrong cross bar lock shape. That's all I needed to see. Also, the fakes never fold the paperwork either. And, the box is not included in the auction and it is for the wrong knife. NO!

Anyone see anything off on this? Note the graphic used for “tactical”. This is on ebay and i am considering buying it but this seems sketchy. Could be an honest misprint, could be fake. Any thoughts on this?

Older 551, looks legit. Good friend!
Thanks for the confirmation! Its a great knife. Introduced me to Benchemade. Stared out with SpiderCo back in the day for EDC, went to HK branded (I'm a gun guy) CKRT's and now this. I wish you still made the exact same knife as I would buy a couple extras...

We do still make the 551 just not in that exact colorway.

I'm not stuck on color as much as function. You do still make the griptillian but not with a combination blade. I know combo blades are looked down on by the knife community but I race sailboats and want a blade that will cut thru a halyards/sheets ASAP if ever needed. The 1/2 serration makes that possible.

I picked up this knife in a bundle of confiscated knives. All of them are nice and worth the 36$, but this one is the reason I purchased the bundle. It’s either the most rare knife they ever made or someone stamped the blade. I can’t find anything close on the internet.

yeah that’s not real

Sorry for your loss.

I believe this is a fake???

Can anyone tell me if this 581S Barrage is genuine? A friend gave it to me and I know nothing of its provenance. I sharpened it and it took a keen, polished edge and felt like M390 in that it had the right amount of resistance to sharpening implements. I have experience enough with knife steels to know that this isn't cheap steel, but I've seen knockoffs that use reasonable steel. Thanks!

Picked up this Mini Griptilian. Seems ok. Blade marked 154CM Blade is a bit sparkly under bright light ??????.

I don't like the OD Green scales. I wish I had a set of original (OEM) Black scales to put on the knife - not aftermarket - original.

Meatcrafter is being faked. Seen the first edition and orange one.

The real ones are very nice!

Hmmm 🤔 I'm not sure this is genuine.

The logo looks wrong - the Registered Trademark symbol is too big. The "Mel Pardue" section is too low and should not cross into the hollow grind portion of the blade. And, the valley in the middle of the M should be sharp and almost touch the top of the P. The logos on each side also seem too far away from the tomb studs.

The pocket clip looks wrong as well (warped) like it bent when they stamped the Benchmade name, which is also thicker than normal and too deeply embossed. The thumb stud tip is too small and not as deep at the end/tip where the Torx is located.

The image is not sharp enough to tell if all the hardware and the axis-lock bar is correct. But the holes for all the small screws almost/maybe look to big and/or deep. I just can tell with only the three pics, and I think the older mini grips did have larger holes for the small screws than newer ones.

A view from above to see how far out the thumbs studs stick out would be helpful as well, as they should not stick out past the scales.

The pocket clip looks wrong as well (warped) like it bent when they stamped the Benchmade name - That's what really got my attention and started my questioning it -, which is also thicker than normal and too deeply embossed. The thumb stud tip is too small and not as deep at the end/tip where the Torx is located. Not enough difference between the ones on this knife and know authentic ones I have one purchased directly from Spyderco several years ago to form a for sure opinion but I see your point.

DocJekl DocJekl - Thanks for your in-depth analysis of my knife. I too believe all is not kosher in Alturas but I gotta say the more than likely counterfeit Mini Grip shown above is just about as perfect as an authentic one direct from Spyderco. I haven't used it for anything difficult but am going to start carrying it regularly to see how things work out. The main thing to look for will be blade steel performance - will it sharpen well and will it hold it's edge?

Edited to say: I've been carrying the knife quite a bit and using it for tasks around the property. The blade sharpens without problems and holds an edge well - very much like 154CM so there's no reason to think it's not 154CM.

I had a counterfeit shipped to me from eBay with a similar blade finish, which I returned immediately since I paid top dollar for a rare model (the blue/grey scales and 20CV steel). I found 21 points of contention on that one and the seller refunded me immediately. He didn't know his sporting good shop had picked up a "LNIB used" fake.

I never got to see how the steel performed - I'm guessing it's either D2 or 440C. So you'll figure it out based on how tough yours is vs its edge retention. If you didn't pay the price for a genuine then it could be worth keeping.

Purchased through fleabay - seller deleted account after shipping. Appears to be a clone, what say the pros?
