Oak, it’s all I used when I first started
What’s the handle on that Kephart made from? Nice knife.

John would have to answer that! It's plain and straight-grained, maybe oak or walnut?

It looks like oak to me. John did a lot of oak early on, and he really does a nice torched oak.John would have to answer that! It's plain and straight-grained, maybe oak or walnut?
Brass is Alot cooler than people give it credit for!!!It looks like oak to me. John did a lot of oak early on, and he really does a nice torched oak.
I may as well add the JK Handmade Knife of the Week to this post - I asked Maggie to reach her hand down into the darkness of the JK Bag of Knives and she pulled out the Mykel-modded mykel m - modified Bushcrafter.
I won this knife in a contest that Mykel had way back when, and it is one that Mykel got from John and then modified with a scale finish that consists of micarta, brass liners, and a final later of micarta. It is hefty and very comfortable to grip. The knife also includes a nice, comfortable to use sheath with a very nicely made fire-starter stick.

It’s one of Johns liner locks, one of his many less known talents.is the bottom folder a slip joint or a liner lock? I only know of friction folders.

This week we go back to a very nice design by cbwoods67 Cooper Woods (haven't seen him around lately) - the design is his Crooked Creek. I'll post a couple of recent pictures and then a link to a review I posted several years back -
And following is the link -
JK Handmade Knives / Cooper Woods Crooked Creek Review
Design Theory and Specifications: I was lucky to be a participant in the Pass-around for the JK Handmade Knives / Cooper Woods Crooked Creek fixed blade knife, and as such, following is my review of the knife and pictures I have taken of the knife in my two weeks with this very nice...www.bladeforums.com
I still enjoy using this knife as it is thin and very handy.
