I received one of the latest bunch of Firesteel Farmers from Roger yesterday and managed to snap a few pictures this morning as I opened up the box.
First, you can see the box full 'o' goodies he included along with the SAK:
Once I got it opened up and laid out, you can see all the cool stuff. There are stickers and Wenger pamphlets and a catalog:
Ah, the stuff you were waiting to see up close:
As you can see, it's a standard Farmer on the top:
And a closeup shot of the striking surface on the bottom:
I'm going to make up a batch of charcloth later today if the wind dies down a bit and I can do it without burning down the neighborhood and then I will see if I can capture the striker in action.
The addition of the striker does change the knife dimensionally (thickness, width, or depth) and makes it a bit heavier but it's not unwieldy and, as I found with the orange one, the striker gives me even more firestarting capability than I had with just the Farmer--a superb tool in its own right.
I have an old, old red Pioneer that has seen the inside of my pocket every day for quite some time but today it's getting a "vacation" and the new Firesteel Farmer is coming along to see what kind of problems we can solve.
