Can someone tell me the best way to secure a boot knife to the lower leg ? I will be getting a Gerber Gurdian and probably a BM Nimravus cub in the near future, and would like to carry it on my lower leg. The sheaths come with a boot clip but what gear is our there to help secure it to ones leg ?

Any advice is appreciated, thanks

All the knives in the world go round and round, round and round, round and round...DAMN, one of them took my wallet !!! :)

I have carried a Gerber Guardian for over 10 years in the top of my left boot. I removed the clip from the original sheath and applied the rough side of velcro (the grabby side) to the back of the sheath. With the strings tight at the top of my boot, the velcro against my sock holds the sheath in place. After wearing it for a few days you tend to forget it is even there, but those first days are a pain.
I bought all my guys (on my shift) CRKT's Stiff Kiss" for Christmas last year. They have found that the sheath has sort of stair steps on the back which make it uncomfortable to wear as I do the Guardian. They have improvised, adapted, and overcome the problem by using longer boot strings and lashing the sheat in place on the outside of the boot.
If you want to design a method of carry without a boot, I think you should examine the ankle holsters available for handguns to get an idea of how the straping is formed then perhaps construct a wrap with your sheath attached. Sounds good in theory anyway.

Two narrower elastic bands secured with velcro could work for those sheaths like the CRKT.

Cool, great suggestion. When the knife gets here I'll take the sheath and try your way. If its truly that secure then boot carry is fine with me. Thanks

I had a patch of velcro sewn on my jump boots when I was in the military. I do the same with my cowboy boots and work boots. I then use "Barge cement" to glue the matching velcro to the sheath. If you were manly enough, barge cement the patch to your leg... shave first though...

I tried that method back in college with a pair of cowboy boots but never got used to the sloppiness of the boot top with the knife in it. Perhaps it was the knife I was using. If you are going to wear a pair of dedicated footwear every day velcro on the sheath and velcro on the boots would be the way to go.

The barge cement on the leg works for a week or so, then the hair grows in and the sheath pulls away from the leg... but thinking about it... if you were really hairy, just velcro directly to your leg...

That would work on hairy chests too... lots of carry possibilities here...

Ok, anybody see Star Trek VI? You know, where the Klingon bad guy has an eye patch that's sorta nailed into his skull? Just an idea....

Hmmm... then the knife would have to be a good stainless steel or even better, Talonite!

How about getting those magnets they use to attach prosthetic noses and the like, and having them surgically implanted. Then you just need a sheath with some metal plates which will line up with the magnets (or other magnets, for even greater sheath retention). You should definitely use Talonite or Ti, because you don't want that blade jumping at your leg as you try and put it in the sheath!
