Brass tomahawks

Hey Wyatt, welcome to BF.

On this forum, a gold or higher paid membership is required before we can talk to you about value or selling. With a lesser level of membership, however, we can discuss history and manufacturing methods and metallurgy all day (and frequently do).

That said, I predict most hawkateers here will have a greater knowledge and experience of steel hawks. Brass is a kinda decorative metal for a hawk, because it won’t take an edge in the usual sense, and it’s chopping performance on wood will fall short of your expectations.

On the bright side, it’s non sparking so less risky in class 1 or 2 hazardous locations. On the dimmer side, we’d have to ask you why you’re chopping in hazardous locations in the first place. In the US, there’s probably some OSHA regulation that says “chop elsewhere”, or prohibits clogging up a steel file with brass swarf while sharpening there. Maybe a bronze file would be allowed.
