Working on casting lead soldiers today. Much harder than I thought. My grandfather was in the Army in World War One, so I did some Doughboys. This machine gunner came out nice. Still have some finish filing to do.
You want to be doing that with good ventilation. Lead is reasonably toxic. Once in the molten stage you can get fumes which can be inhaled. And you want to keep lead contamination limited to the work room. Don't track that into the rest of the house.
