Does the Leatherman Wave 1st gen have spring loaded pliers?

I just bought a used one for $50 (Pat Pend; one hand opening knife and serrated blade; should be the ‘98 version). Pretty much new and pristine, but the pliers don’t open automatically, and basically function like those on the rebar (though are fairly looser). Are they supposed to be like that?

They are not supposed to be spring loaded. Sounds like yours are functioning as they are supposed to.

The original Leatherman tool was very basic. I like that it was light, small and likely to be near when needed.

The original Wave was not spring-loaded. At least, none of the ones I've carried since they came out have been.

I don't think that they ever made a wave spring loaded, unless some very rare limited production that I don't know off. They are quite heavy so there is no need, their weight allow them to open by themselves.

The Wingman type and a few newer are the ones spring loaded.

They are one of the best scissors they have done IMHO.

Mine have this kind of spring action.
