Favorite hunting knives

Its been a while since we had a thread for favorite hunting knives. I'm hoping we might have new folks to participate.



I have an old sharp finger, and Frost Mora version of the Grohmann in that photo. I'm hoping to try out the CPK edc this year too.

Thank you Scott. Forging Damascus is fun and rewarding. It's really fun to watch the pattern show up the way you had hoped.

After years of hunting the best I have found in the mass production line is Bark River. Their A2 is outstanding with the convex edge. The 3V is great too. It can easily be sharpened like a good carbon steel and holds an edge like nothing I have used before.

Plus one on the Grohmann line, they have some good stainless blades.

Wow! That is beautiful. What a great execution of a drop point hunter Can I ask what steel Mr. Steingass built that in?

That's polished CPM154. I wanted a modern stainless so it's worry-free out in the woods in rainy cold weather.

I'm kind of partial to my Small Game Hunter knife and my Woodsman pattern. But I could be biased as a knife maker.

Here's a pair I made for a father and son in CPM 3v steel with an osage orange handle and micarta handle:

And here is the very first one that I made, which coincidentally was the first knife that I ever made. I had designed my own hunting/skinning knives for years before becoming a knifemaker and this was my favorite pattern of all that I've had other knifemakers create for me. When I jumped into the craft, I knew it had to be my first knife made as it's just one that works so superbly for how I use a knife in the field.
