Hot off the press from Customs and Homeland Security. It is in the Knife law section linked here:

:thumbdn::(

The letters have already been sent to the knife importers stating that they will now consider AOs and flickable knives to be switchblades. Please READ the link to the actual letters sent before you say this is not correct. This is very scary stuff as a NYer I have seen what this type of interpertation of the law has done in NYC.

I read the other thread, sad sad sad. So the only thing they're proposing that we will be allowed to carry is 2 hand knives?
If so, move this to W&C so we can say how we really feel.

I hope it stays in General for now so all the readers see it as it is very important for all members to be aware of what is going on. It is very very sad. As a former NYC LEO, I have watched the right to carry a knife become a thing of the past in NY, and I have always looked forward to moving elsewhere when I retire to where people think like the bulk of us here, but now the Federal Gov't does this !!

If this is put into effect, I think you will see a rise in the number of fixed blades being carried, both on the belt and neckers.

It is a sad day indeed.

That's a scary thought. Whereas now I can see people's knives, in the future they might hide them. That's not good for anyone.

Disgusting, this is an infringement upon our rights as citizens of this nation, nothing more, nothing less.

will someone please paraphrase what they have read?

i was on kniferights.org and tried to download the document but it froze up my computer, and now i have no idea what i'm supposed to be worried about but i'm mad as hell still.

My crappy interpretation basically says, "One hand knives are switchblades" or pretty close to that. If that's not what it says, that's how it will end up soon.

I'll second that - I'm on a BlackBerry and can't download it either. Would someone please summarize it?

why cant people be left alone?? Why do the smallest, dumbest percentage of the population decide what the majority of us are allowed??

What did you expect from the current administration? I'm afraid that this is just the beginning.

and can you believe that our taxes pay some jerk off to think this @$#6 up in effect we pay for this %^&

The Homeland Security and Customs have basically decided to start enforcing the import laws to reflect any knife that can be quickly deployed. They are using the definition of a switchblade that includes inertia opening and they went back to the law passed in 1958 to say that in the debate over the law, it was discussed that any knife quickly deployed is dangerous.

I knew this was gonna happen with AO knives. They have always been a "loophole" knife.

Spyderco has been the only smart company that hasn't fallen into the "fad" of AO knives. Thank God!

Socialism is the future of America.
"Change" was the promise, but nobody asked what changes were going to happen, here you go people. This is the change you voted for sadly.
48% of America voted America, 52% of America voted Red Scare, the very thing we tried to prevent 2 generations ago.

This goes beyond AOs! It includes any knife that can be flicked open by a simple wrist flick !!!!!

It is not something to be passed !! Customs and Homeland Security make determinations that are then law until overturned in court! Therefore as per importation this is in effect NOW ! The letter they sent out to importers said they are NOW not allowed to import these anymore.
