Finishing after etching?

All my knives are full tang, and recently I have been etching in ferric chloride to reveal the temper line. My question is what is the best way to finish a knife after etching? If I put the scales on like I usually do and finish them, then during profiling I end up removing the etch from the knife all along the handle and spine. The obvious answer is to have the scales perfectly finished previous to epoxying them on, but is there an easy way to get around this?

The easyist way is to finish like you do and the with a small brush or q-tip dpped in acid run around the edges for the final etch. I do this on my Damasteel blades with no problem to speak of.
