Fort Phantom Hill / Lake (43 Pics)

We went to Fort Phantom Hill and Fort Phantom Lake a few days ago. I took knives from all 3 companies along, and my SY challenge coin. I thought I’d share with you guys. I’ll post them on all 3 forums since some people don’t visit more than one.

Here’s some of my knives in the window of one of the old buildings that’s still standing.

One of the wells, and two of the standing fireplaces. Most of the buildings were torched 100+ years ago, so it’s mostly just standing fireplaces.

Some prickley pear cactus flowers.

They only WISHED they had steel this good.

I dunno how prickley pear seeds managed to get clear up in the top of the chimney to sprout. Must be birds I guess.

I had a scary run-in here. I was taking pics inside this building, and noticed a buzzing/humming sound. Then I looked up about 10 feet away, and there was a hive of what I believe to be killer bees. There was a nest where the timbers above connect into the rock. There was a large crack, and it was covered with bees. I’ve seen pics of killer bees, and they’re more subdued (color wise) than regular bees. More grayish then brighter yellow. I thought it would have been a cool pic, but I thought not a good idea to get that close, so I didn’t. I didn’t want to have to run ½ mile back to the truck with a swarm chasing me, then have to drive 15 miles to the hospital.

The stick is from a yucca, and I found the (hawk?) feather on the ground.

Thanks Andy. Trip down memory lane, went there back in 1974!!! I use to like going to the old Forts back in those days.

That's the bars over the window. I was trying to shoot between them as best I could, but there wasn't enough room to get the lens through.
