Today I treated my cousin's horn handled WWII with hoof lubricant. How often should the treatment be repeated? He lives in Arizona, so the khukuri will be in a dry environment. Will one treatment be enough?
No; one treatment will not be enough.A hoof should be pliable. In AZ, this may take several applications of neatsfoot oil or hoof dressing, just to stabilize.Horn is not too bad as it comes. The problem has been wood.
At one time, I was going to sell the stuff, but it's so readily available at such low cost, I didn't bother. But FNG's right - one treatment is NOT enough. Better to do a couple, then send the khukuri to him with a little bottle of the stuff.
