Help with finishing with sand paper.

I have the knife on the bottom that I stripped and am sanding down to give it a satin finish and take all the pitting and grind marks out. I'm having a hard time getting around the tight curves and small ledges around the scales. Anyone have any tips or tricks? I'm hoping to do it by hand but may have to send it to be media blasted. Thanks.

You could try small shapes of wood with sandpaper wrapped around.

The only way to do it right is to remove the rivets, take the scales off and sand the tang.
