I very seldom do any work with fixed bladed knives and even less with knives with no front bolster.

So, I thought you might find it interesting to see how I deal with the issues such as the glue line at the front of the stone where it meets the metal.

To get the scales to meet at the right spot on the front I tape a curved bit of a paint stick to have a point to bump up against that will be the same on each side.

Here are a few photos and be sure to check out the glue line.....

Hopefully you do not see a glue line. I do a very slight undercut of the stone, probably about .003 which is enough to allow cleaning of the adhesive to a point it is just slightly behind where you would be able to see it.

Here is how it looks now.....

Mike,
Very nice True Bloodstone Damascus fixed blade. The Damascus looks exceptional. Especially like the overall balanced look with the contoured handle. The notches give an extra special touch of class. Your Bloodstone handle is A-One......great craftsmanship. The lack of a front bolster really promotes a clean overall look. Well, to sum it up, I think you have created another Redrummd premium work of Art. Congrat's on this exceptional knife.

Is it going to be your shop working knife? Do you have a special sheath for it? Is it a Buck knife?

Best Regards,
Dennis

This was a knife that I did as a request for Fred, who actually owns knife #7!

He supplied the knife so I do not know where he bought it.

Michael, This Damascus fixed blade is beautiful. Once again, you have mastered your unique art in stone...

The blade was bought on ebay for 49.95 several months ago and shipped directly to Mike by the seller at my request.
There are a number of sellers on ebay with raindrop damascus knives, both blanks and handled. The prices are very good but the knives are not something I would use. Better to find a really nice blank with a full tang and talk Mike into handling it for you. I almost didn't go with the blood stone but Mike convinced me it would look great. As always he was right
Search "damascus dagger raindrop" or "damascus knife birdseye" on ebay and you will see a nice selection. Check with Mike before you buy to see if he can work with it. And look at the knife closely. sometimes they have missing metal in the darker areas, small pits Fred

Fred,
Thanks for all the info on the Damascus blades....your very kind to take the time. The Bloodstone looks exceptional and Mike's recommendations are always helpful and accurate. I always trust and value his opinion. I was fortunate to get a Case Bloodstone barehead Peanut on Mike's recommendation and it really is beautiful, rare, and unusual.

I remember seeing pictures of a couple of your knives last year: #7 and a Skokomish River Flower Agate with the perfect flower.......thanks for sharing those items.

Hey Fred, have you considered any of the Darrell Gulen pictures of Mike's premier stones? I just received 5 of them today.....wow they are nice and will make a great picture grouping.

Can't get enough Redrummd Art in Stone,
Dennis
