Review "Laquiole" sailor folding knife

I got this second-hand on eBay for 5€ plus 2€ shipping (new ones are sold for 20-25€). Steel is stainless, probably 440 or 420, blade is fully serrated as seen on pictures and it has a marlin spike with a really pointy tip as well as a shackle key with a flathead screwdriver tip. Overall, the build is nice, liners are 3 mm thick, blade 1,9 mm, same goes for the shackle key next to it and marlin spike being 8 mm thick at the widest point. The knife overall feels sturdy and the pins holding everything together are quite thick themselves. Handles are wooden and while you can unscrew the screws, you can not really remove the handles due to the hinge. Overall thickness is 19,50 mm and length 94,30 mm. It comes with a nice leather pouch. While the knife looks good and feels so in the hand, the biggest flaw is the blade. The serrations are ok for rope cutting but that is it. Victorinox Mariner model with half serrated blade is much more efficient and serrations on it, plus the normal blade part cut rope much better and can be applied to other uses as well. Marlin spike on Victorinox while being smaller and thinner is harder than the one on this knife. Its spike is much more softer but the thickness, design and stronger lock up allow for a more extreme use. Being a sailor myself and using Victorinox for 5 years now I feel like this knife is more looks and less function, the only plus being the sturdy marlin spike. Hi CortoMaltese, and wellcome to the forums. Knife looks good and it is indeed a very specific tool. Could you post a picture of the Victorinox just to see the differences you are talking about?
