If you were ordering a new #1-8
what would you order?
SS? Commando shaped? straight handle?
Micarta? 7"? 8"?
I know its personal preference,
just looking for ideas.
Thanks!
Are you ordering the knife to use or display? Bo Randall's advice was to go with 7" in a combat knife and 6" in a hunter as per his catalogs for many years. Stainless is good but high carbon is easier to sharpen.White micarta for show black for use.nickle silver hilt with a compass in the butt for use with a lanyard hole. Duraluminium butt to match for show. Skip saw teeth. Straight handle .I would try to stay as close to the original design as possible using modern updates {micarta} as possible.
7" 01 Carbon steel.
Leather Commando Handle or Stag.
All brass fittings and a brass but cap (with either handle).
Black 'n brass spacers..
Whether or not this knife option would be used or not wouldn't matter because it would outlive me. I'm a little partial to the aged 'Springfeild' look on some Randalls. But I definately don't like the duraluminum butt.
This sounds like what I am after.
I should start with a classic, as I am starting
from scratch.
