Polymer scales for GI Tanto

I inquired with Cold Steel about purchasing a set of the polymer scales for a GI Tanto. I have the older model with the paracord wrapped tang and think I would prefer to have scales. I called and they said they were not in stock and 3-4 months out for new stock. I was also surprised at the cost I was quoted. A new GI Tanto with the new kydex sheath (which I also prefer) is only about $30 all in. I was quoted $15.99 (not sure if that also included shipping charges, as I didn't bother to ask once I heard the price).

I suppose my point is who would pay more than half the cost of a complete knife WITH sheath for a set of plastic scales? Sure as heck not me.

I guess I'll just make my own, good project for this weekend.
 
Well I just looked through the cold steel mod thread, I think I'll make a project of it this weekend. I like the pics with the upper guard removed and I think I have some nice material for scales. Pics to come when I'm done.
