Re-profile SAK's blades

After reading threads here on minimalist SAK, I order the tinker. I have been EDC-ing it for a week now, and I love it, it's just disappear in my pocket. Now my explorer will stay in my bag. Usually I keep factory edge on all of my SAKs blades, but I’m thinking about putting different angle on this one, maybe like 10 degrees or less on the small blade and 15 for the big blade. Will it be possible considering its rather soft steel? Any thought?

Thanks,

With very acute edge angles on softer steel there is a possible problem of fold-over on the edge - (ie: when forming a burr - the thin steel is folding over) - which can be difficult to get rid of to get a good clean edge..... and if unseen - can cause a lot of frustration as the just "sharpened" blade will seem very dull in places.

I have encountered this on some recent 420J2 blades and on stainless steel Opinels - but not on Victorinox SAKs.

However the best thing one can do with SAKs is to grind/hone away the distinct corner/discontinuity between the blade face and the edge bevel.

Since I'm doing that anyway I actually made the transition between the blade face and actual edge continuous or zero bevel convex - by simple and natural rolling of my honing strokes...

Please take a look at this thread for more details -

Convexed Edge

Thanks Vincent. I think I am going to try to convex one of my SAK's this weekend. Pretty cool.
