This seems to be the place to find out what these are. Please help me identify the 3 blades at the bottom of this web page. Thanks
Chuck

Need help for Chuck, forumites. The only knife I know for sure when I see one is the khukuri and if I'm luck a Swiss Army knife so I'm not going to bother to look since I'm so unqualified.

Bill

Bill, they're antique Khukuris of some sort. Very unusual patterns at least compared to what's in your catalogs, and in at least one case the grip seems undersized for Western hands.

VERY interesting pics.

Well Bill, I think you should look then...because both type are there, sveral of each!

I finally found it. I saw two khukuris and from the pix it looks like they are from Nepal. Top is a lot older than bottom, guessing 150 years give or take a few. If that's real silver on the sheath this is a collector's item. John Powell should take a look at this one.

The bottom khukuri is not as old and not as valuable. The small handles on both tell us they were made for locals or Gurkhas who have small hands.

I would not mind having that top model but I have given up collecting actively. If it comes to me, fine, but I don't go looking anymore.

Wish I could be of more help but need a few more details pix and measurements.

Bill

Chuck, Bill has nailed the age on the 'small handled' one. I'd agree to around mid 1800s and definitely Nepalese, but unfortunately missing all its' small knives and lowering its' value considerably. The other piece is a 'kothimora', but is incomplete without the chain and again the small knives. Can't tell from the photo about authenticity, or age. Hope that helps.

Sorry Chuck, I looked at the pix again and realized I mixed up the previous info. The upper khukuri with the small handle is a kothimora, circa 1870-1890. The bottom khukuri is a very standard military weapon from circa 1830-1860. If you have access to these knives and could check the blades and some other details a lot more could be determined about them.

Bill, see I told you you should look at them, what no info on the swiss armies? ;-)...Thanks a lot for your info on these..was really having a hard time with them.My dad picked a lot of stuff up in Scotland yrs ago (oil field trash here),and he had a stroke about 10yrs ago.He can't communicate anymore..very frustrating haveing to go thru it all, not really knowing if you have something of value. When my mom moved about 6 mos ago...I salvaged some old K-rations out of the garbage...sold on ebay for $169....blew my mind!Decided it was worth the effort to do a little research (have found this site to be the most valuble). Thanks for your help again.

Thought the bottom khukuri might not be that old but my eyes are no good anymore and the pix are not the best.
