what size wood/micarta etc..

what sizes are generally used for folders. i posted this in shop talk. i was thinking a piece of 1x1x5 should be sufficient--what do yall think--thanks marekz

3/16" thick per scale, at least one inch wide, length varies a lot.

I personally prefer to cut my own scale sets, as long as the lumber is under 4" thick (more than that is a wrestling match with my equipment).
