You know this sword doesn't look half bad

After my dive into the unconventional with my bolo design, I might be willing to try to work up a model for you N2S. If it pans out, I would be in for one. I agree that it may work better than it looks like it would, I know this is the case for my bolo design. If you could email the specs you are thinking, the more detail the better, I will get to work on it. It will probably take a while, like some time after Xmas or New Years, but I think Big Gorka is backed up anyhow so it would be a while before they get made anyway. I like the unconventional, but not the modern "Tactical" look turns me off. This gets my blood flowing though. It will make me feel like I am in there with Glimli, Legolas and Aragorn, if you catch my meaning...;)

Just email a list of questions, and let's see what we can come up with....

BTW, do you have an A.K. Bowie?

n2s

I dont have an AK bowie. Maybe I can snag one from Uncle Bill if those UBDOTDs he mentioned work out. I doubt it though, I am broke till after the holidays at least. I got to travel to my parents for Thanksgiving and then do all my Xmas shopping. I will send you an email and we can get this project rolling though.

Ah, its a nice bowie, but since I'm only 5'6" it's a bit too much knife for me ( my 15in AK is about my max for a knife ). I'm sure there will be some happy campers running around with one of these in the future though.

(You) pull out a giant HI knife
(he) [reaching for his knife...then see's your knife]
(he) [straightening] Never mind mate... [hands you his jacket]

So I guess we are all getting these hugh knives to shake Paul Hogan out of jacket. :D

Did someone say UBDOTD?!?

shows up, tell him to bring lots of leather :D If that li'l thing will get you a jacket, I'll bring the humungoid UBE, and try for a leather trench coat:p

You'd need a trench coat a la Highlander to hide one of those bowie's.

What's a UBDOTD? Some sort of special deal? If its something good, I need to know!

Mike -

Uncle Bill's Deal Of The Day - Includes blems (which you can sometimes see, always fix with a bit of leather or super glue or epoxy) and overstock, once in a while. The HIKV brings us here. UBDOTDs churn the water into a froth, like a Great White Feeding Frenzy. It helps break up the day  When these things come along, Uncle posts them, and it is first come, first Khuk'd.

I think I'll be able to post one today if I can get away from my shopping site building long enough.

We'll try to get one up from time to time. When we get caught up from the Dasein shutdown we'll run them on a regular basis again.

Not2Sharp,

I really like your idea for an HI "falchion" - one of my favorite swords. There is pictoral evidence for the two-handed falchion dating to the 14th century. It would be a handy size too. I have been trying to get up the nerve to order a chainpuri chiruwa UBE having a 24 inch blade, 3 inches wide at the widest, and a twelve inch handle. I have to think Sanu would take kindly to the project. Overall, I have always liked the concept of compact two-handed cutting swords. I hope this one gets off the ground. If someone will email me with instructions I'll post pix of the "humungoid" (thanks Wal, now I know how to describe it)UBE Uncle referred to next to a basket hilted falchion I have.

Finn,

Let's see what happens. rkenny and I exchanged some thoughts via Email yesterday, he is going to take a shot at building a model. It will hopefully be a well recieved addition to HI's 2002 line.

The blade is very strong, and when you add the large double fullers on each side you not only increase the structural integrity but also reduces the blade thickness at the fuller to about 3/16 (7/16-2x1/8" fullers) so it is not going to be as heavy to wield as you think. About 50% of the blades surface will be around 3/16" thick. The whole thing would probably feel like a solid 1/4" thick 18" blade. That's heavy, but not unheard of; issued 19th century pioneer and artillery sidearms were in this size range, and they had single handed grips.

Uncle,
Just make sure there are a few extra trees at the next HI convention. :D

Old-time fighting bowies could have blades as long as 18 inches or longer (popular with Arkansas regiments during the Civil War). Raymond Thorpes book "Bowie Knife" is a fun read.

Where did the piece pictured at the start of your post come from? It certainly has the HI look.

Finn,

That is the picture of an Ang Khola Bowie that has been manipulated to double it's AOL. I had originally thought I was going to barrow bits and pieces to create a masoic photo, but it looked so good when I streched it that very little else needed to be done to it. I also added a guard, beefed up the pommel, and removed the CHO. It is not a scaled up AK Bowie, but it retains many of the best features.
