12-9 Legit or Counterfeit?

I am meeting the seller on Sat morning. We have agreed on a price that would be quite reasonable if it legit. I believe that the sheath is not correct for a 12-9 without the #14 grind, but the knife fits it and I don't mind that. Any concerns if this is a real Randall?

Thank you

It looks good to me also. The blade is the right shape. It is a #22 handle which is available on the model 12. Forward turned hilt also available on the model 12. Brass pommel which is recommended for the 12 “to offset blade weight”.

The sheath looks good. I think it is a nicely optioned knife.

I’m no expert but I don’t see any red flags.

I picked it up today. It's a gorgeous piece! Doesn't appear to have been used at all or re-sharpened. The seller said that the person from whom he purchased it said it was stainless. Obviously, there is no "S" stamped on it. Either way, I'm really happy with the purchase, but I am curious of the blade composition. Without the "S" is it definitely tool steel?

Thank you

I’ve been checking back all day to see if you got it.

Good for you!

The only way I know to check if it’s carbon steel is with cold blue. A drop on the blade. If it’s stainless it won’t stain.

If you are going to use it you’ll know soon enough as it develops patina.

I don't have any problems with using it but won't be right away.

Carbon steel. Those sheaths 'fit' and can be special ordered with that model.
