Howdy folks.
I am going to try and make a few
"pouch style" fixed blade sheaths. They will
have clips on them to clip inside the pocket.

I have no leather supplies/tools at the moment and am making
a trip to Tandy this afternoon.
I will also do some basic carving (I used to do this long ago)
Can you give me some tips as to what I should pick up?
what type of thread should I get? they have so many different kinds.
(Probably I will use needles and not stitching awl)

here is what I have on my list so far...

Book on Hand Sewing
6/7 7/8 oz shoulder leather
Bone folder
stitching prongs 4,3 and 2?
awl
stitching awl?
needles
barge cement
Groover
edge beveler/cutter
Craftool Basic 7 Tool Set with swivel knife.
(some al stohlman books/patterns as well)

Please quote me and add it to the list, then I will print it
and go shopping :)

Thank you!

Hope there was someone at the store to help you, I saw this one too late but looks like you had all the bases covered. Hand stitching thread is all I can see you needed and they can surely help you with that.

Thanks.
I did get the thread,
blew the finish.
Oh well... I joined to be a member to
get the better price,so I can just order
it over the net.
Im sure more questions to follow.
Thanks

You would probably need a edge groover, hand held groover, and a swivel knife. Might even could use a skiver and maybe a hole punch or two. Do not forget your finish coats after you get some dye, something like Tan-Kote or Neatsfoot Oil. Good luck.

Hi , I bought almost all of what you did plus dye and edge kote, spent $200. One thing I got though, was sinthetic sinew thread I really like it. Use bees wax on it and twist it. I have made some pouch sheaths, no pankcake. So far one went into trash can . The other two I'am working on are, well lets just say my first. Mark.
