I don't know if I can get these pics to come up but if I can I'd appreciate any input on these 2 swords I recently purchased.

I was told they were from 1930-1940 Japan. Does anybody know anything about this type of sword?

Are they usually Damascus or no?

Guess on Value, quality, age, maker etc is more than welcome.

Thanks.

The sword with the braided handle has words on the blade that say 15th year of the reign of Emperor Hirohito (1941).

The name of the owner is also on the blade. It doesn't look like the typical gunto (military issue sword) but is not traditionally made either. The Japanese are not likely to etch words on to expensive blades. Most swords made in this time period are mass produced. But there are exceptions.

Can you take the handle off? There're usually inscriptions on the tang. If you find a star shaped arsenal stamp, it would mean it's a gunto.

Great link TWG!! I didn't find these exact items but some that were close.

I emailed Rich. I hope he will take a look at them.

Thanks again.
