2 packages stolen by the carriers in December. Grrrr!

I apologize ahead of time if this comes off as rude but before you tell someone they are wrong about something, just do a quick internet search to make sure they are actually wrong.

The USPS is part of the federal government so it is very easy to do a quick search to see their financial status/history.

They have lost money every year for the past 12 years running and they have a monopoly on first class mail. They claim that their operating expenses don't require tax dollars but that's just semantics as they have huge retirement expenses that require our tax dollars/deficit spending to meet.

A private enterprise would have been out of business long ago if they operated as poorly as the USPS but since the federal government has an endless supply of tax dollars/deficit spending, they are allowed to stay afloat.

Back when they didn't lose money, their rates were exorbitant and Lysander Spooner started a competing mail company and was quickly shut down by the feds. Like it or not, your tax dollars and/or progeny's tax dollars are keeping them afloat
Sorry to burst your bubble.....

Congress still has authority over the U.S. Postal Service. The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to fund its operations. But while Congress doesn't fund the post office, they do continue to control the purse strings. Apr 4, 2018
The postal service does have the authority to BORROW funds from the government at a reduced rate-but it’s not free money!

Burst away. Please read the article by Fortune I linked to above.

Who controls the "purse strings" is completely irrelevant. The claim is that operating expenses are covered by the revenues. This is a game of semantics as operating are only a small portion of overall expenses.

I understand that you work for the USPS and I'm sure you are a nice guy and a hard worker but the fact of the matter is that Taxpayers fund the USPS to the tune of $18 Billion (yes, that's a B) annually.

I was a financial advisor for 10 years and while I know most people don't completely understand the ins and outs of finance, the internet is an indispensable resource to learn about new things.
