2007 Little Rock Preview

I live about an 8 hour drive from Little Rock. The only knife show that I had been to before last years at LR was the first Chicago Show and the Fisk Micro. I spoke w/ JR Cook and he recommended that I go to the LR show, he said that there are many great makers (and there are) and it is more intimate than Blade. I talked w/ my pal Kevin Jones about Blade Show and I think it would be to much for my little mind to handle. Great show, great hall, great hotel, and wonderful people who like to talk knives! I told Jerry Fisk last year I was lucky that I wasn't kicked out for drooling on the knives.

I will try to make Little Rock next year. Is the show downtown?
Don't miss the ABS Museum. Jerry's got a few nice ones in there.

The Arkansas Custom Knife show has really become a great show for seeing talent across the ABS spectrum.

I always enjoy my time at the show.

Is it easy to fly there? I note it's not very far from Fort Wrth / Dallas...

Little Rock has an airport with commercial service. The drive from Dallas would be a pretty good jaunt.

Northern Arkansas had up to 4-inches of snow yesterday (Wednesday). One would want to check road conditions before travel if you are driving.

Little Rock has some sleet and ice on the roadways this morning and is expected to get a little more on Thursday night. The street crews should have it managable by Friday evening, but caution would be in order.
It is allowing me to work in my shop another day or two and get something done for the show. :D I live about an hour from the show, so I'll just leave earlier to get there. Under most circumstances the LR show will be a convenient one to attend. I'm sure traffic will be moving , although with caution. This weather is not unusual this time of year. Anyone from the northern climes would snicker at our weather! Just take a little extra caution and it will be a good show. Lin:)

I would never drive there. I'm wondering if there are regular & cheap flights off Dallas / Fort Worth. Dallas is a pretty easy destination for most people, it being a hub and all. Otherwise, Arkansas is hard for Left Coasters...

Yep, daily flights too and fro from Dallas, Atlanta, Denver and a couple of other hubs I think.
Interesting thing about the Arkansas show. One is for the judging of the knives for awards, tape must be put over the name on the knives. This year we are going to try and start a mentor program on how to train the judges to what to best look for. Right now all across the country they just grap up whoever, sometimes they get qualified people and sometimes the folks they get are not knowledgable enough to say which one is best and why. So, we will start that this year. Arkansas also will have a technical judge. He at this point anyway will have no vote, but if the judges runs into a tech question he can answer it.

Josh,

I misinterpreted your earlier comment. Wee hours of the morning.

The best choices through Dallas to L.R. would be Southwest Airlines (through Love Field) and American Airlines (through DFW airport). Check them out and maybe next year it will work for you. I attended the show last year and it is a very good one.

Don McIntosh is now firmly on the radar.

The Ruth Mammoth hunter is stunning.
