i've been in it since the original (i think) Pembertons, i have #7 tomato acrylic, and just before the first Broadway Jacks, got the one with oiled bone on the front and white camel on the back.Chuck, welcome to the frustration that is GEC. Currently they make runs of 4-600 and you can't find one, when ten years ago they made runs of 50 and they were available up to a year later. I'm not really sure how GEC survived that slow start, but they're a juggernaut now.
Actually, a lot of the runs now are 700-1,100. The recent 68 pony comes to mind. Traditional slip joints have significantly gained popularity over the last few years. Most of the other quality brands have went by the wayside, and GEC has created an international demand now. It doesn't surprise me at all that supply can't meet demand for these.Chuck, welcome to the frustration that is GEC. I'd say you did OK!I didn't get the nicest jigged bone versions but this pair made up for it.

Welcome to the Porch my friend .Hello fellow collectors. New member here just starting my GEC collection. Love everything about these knives, just a bit small for a user to me. So in the safe they go.
It is an A knife, from what I have seen from others I don't think the cracks on this are explained by the grading. If it were I would hate to see a B.Was it a "A" or "B" knife?......... Those knives have known defects and are priced accordingly.......
That one is worse than any I've seen. The flaws in both grades were mostly from delaminating and could cause a small fracture or spiderweb at a pin. That looks like it was either dropped and expanded the flaw, or maybe extreme cold expanded it. If that were like that at the factory, it should have never left IMO. I'd call Joan Mae and send her that pic. and see what she says.It is an A knife, from what I have seen from others I don't think the cracks on this are explained by the grading. Thank you. Looking forward to growing my collection and my knowledge. I’ve had a #94 in blue for a couple of weeks now, and just got my #49 red today. Overall these are the nicest folders ( maybe knives) I have ever had. I Prefer the blue camo bone over the red Garnet but I love how pinchable the 49 blade is, not that the 94 isn’t. also the pull on the 49 is perfect for me. A crisp 4. Blade centering was about the same on both, slightly off perfect. I love them. I will be buying more GEC.Welcome to the Porch my friend .

When I mentioned cold, I was thinking sitting somewhere during transport. They may at least offer to replace the handle slab for you. Best of luck and let us know how you make out.Wasn't dropped, or at least by me, there are no other signs of damage and you can barely feel the crack. Ain't that cold down in the swamp.
I'll give Joan Mae a call as you suggest and see what they think. Shame too as it's a great little knife.
Thanks for all the replies.
Anyone else notice how much beefier the brass liners are on these guys? Wonder what the reason may be if any reason at all. Or was it just cut from thicker material to start with.
Curiosity has me thinking out loud. I'll have to get a side by side pic later with another GEC model to illustrate what I mean. The 94/49 I have in particular seems pretty stout for it's size.

Taylor,I know where your coming from because I usually don't carry a frame this small either but I love how much blade size wise is packed into this frame. The front bolsters are lined up the same on these three and frame to handle ratio the 94 wins. The angle of the pic makes the blade length look off but the blade is virtually the same length as the Case 62032.This one showed up, not exactly sold on it yet. I ended up landing a flag acrylic 49 for my dad. I’m not exactly sold as I’m not into the smalls. But just eyeballing it quick it has good fit and finish. Nice blade! Really like the red bone.![]()
