2024 Remington Bullet Knife

I'm thinking Cooper as the maker. SMKW has the rights to use the Remington brand on knives and there is a close relationship between SMFW and Cooper. Speculation on my part based on observations and not published facts.

Would guess bear and son trapper with another layer for the hook, so not skinny and not going to be something I would spend that kind of cash on. For 50 bucks you can still find a R-1 that has the choke tool, and is one of my favorite Remingtons.

Those look like B&S nail nicks and choil. Cooper could be a contender but they have never done a part serrated blade, and B&S did a pilot run with one last year. On the other hand the swell in the handle looks more Battle axe brand. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

So I got impatient and decided to call Remington up and SMKW. The story I received from Remington is there is a 2023 bullet ā€œhawk billā€ still in production but may be released in 2024. When I asked who made it I was told ā€œthere will be less than the 2024. Maybe this will be the GEC? SMKW wouldnā€™t say anything except for yes a 2023 is coming.

Good digging!

I talked with Bill Howard yesterday and he confirmed that a hawkbill Remington was made by GEC. I think it's been done for some time. SMKW must be waiting on some of the elaborate packaging they've used on previous bullet knives and that's holding up release.

I understand now why the 2024 isnā€™t well received. Mine arrived this morning from vista outdoors and was caked in polishing compound. Took a fair amount to clean it up and once cleaned certain spots donā€™t even look polished on the blades and bolsters. Besides that it dose feel solid.

To people who have one of these, what do you think of them so far? Any good? Guesses as to the maker?
Honestly I like it! I wish QC was better but seeing it all covered in polishing compound made me think back to the buck era cause all of them I got had that issue out of the box. This was definitely not done by buck I personally think Bear & son because it dose feel like a nice sturdy knife but not at $150 price point.

Recall seeing those Bullitt knives advertised back around 1981 when Remington came out with the Model Four and Model Six centerfire rifles. Back cover of the catalog.

So where are the pictures. Look at the box it came in and the literature that came with it to find out who made it.

I am not a Remington collector (haven't thrown myself down that rabbit hole - yet). However, I do like the GEC-made Remingtons. They are solid, well built knives that I should carry and use more frequently. I will look forward to the next iteration.

I'm in the same boat (except I carry that Granddaddy Barlow regularly!)

Some of the really old ones look pretty great, but it appears there's been some junk produced under the 'Big Green' banner over the years.

I'm consistently unimpressed with Bear & Sons manufacturing standards (mostly because I have a real pet peeve about unintended recurves, but the Remington Barlow from them I picked up last year had a lot of chipping on the sawcut jigging, an unintended recurved blade, side-to-side play, and quite unimpressive edges...), and while I could potentially overlook, or fix, them at the right price - I'm not willing to go down that road with a knife that commands the premium that Remingtons do.

I am still waiting for Bear & Sons to decide to build to a higher standard. Maybe they could drop their mostly uninteresting modern line and put more focus on traditionals. That would be an epic day for sure and would certainly be my play if I were calling the shots! Until then, I'd be interested in seeing what Cooper Cutlery could do with a Remington knife if given the chance, but I'm not holding my breath.

On the other hand, for GEC's Remingtons - I'm in all the way!

Hmmmm, I think another possibility could be Moore Maker for making this knife. The price on this 2024 is way too much for most of Bear and Son's knives and I think Moore Maker is making the new Queen USA knives for SMKW because have a few Moore Makers and saw Moore Maker on a prototype video for those.
