So I recently got the disc attachment for my Brodbeck and have been having one hell of a time finding any 3M Feathering Adhesive available anywhere...

Is there a secret I'm not aware of? Anyone "got a source?"

I even called my local O'Reilly's who lists it as a "call your store to order" product. Dude told me he's not sure they can get it as it looks like it's a special order item which usually means they can't get it. Every single vaguely reputable online retailer lists it as out of stock.

What am I missing? Is it made from unicorn hooves?

PSA discs are worth it for me due to this issue and the general mess of it all. I have also struggled to find feathering adhesive and it’s high.

3M super 77 spray works fairly well and is super tacky. I only do the paper side, not the wheel or I find it too bonded at removal. It’s a good substitute or…… relax, peel, stick, grind on 😊

This is what 3M said:

Thank you for contacting 3M, where we apply science to life.

3M Feathering Disc Adhesive, 08051, has been discontinued. Unfortunately, we do not have a suggested replacement

Yup. Unicorn hooves.

Super 77 works so-so. It is a bit messy and may get bumpy with removal. Use it sparingly.

I also have switched to peel and stick. It saves time and you can put the backing back on when you change discs.

A quick shot or two of Brakleen( the stuff in the green can is fine, no need for the high octane red can ), and 77 glue residue wipes right off the substrate when the abrasive sheet/disc is peeled off.

That's great to know!

I recently bought my last two tubes at NAPA. And they just got a new one in.
Are you talking about 3M product? If so, it must be new old stock from somewhere other than direct from 3M.

What brand are you referring to here?

IIRC, brake cleaner is just Acetone with a splash of paint thinner in a spray can.

I heard another knife maker say that they use Aleene's Tack It. You can find it on Amazon for cheap. I haven't tried it myself, but that's what I plan on trying when I run out of my tube of feathering adhesive.

I couldn't find this with an online search for some reason, but Napa does show the normal 3M Feathering Adhesive as still available to purchase online. $48 a tube though!
I just ordered two when this thread came out. My store had one on the shelf so I bought it. I had them order the two they could find in Tennessee. They actually said those were the only two remaining in the NAPA system.

I have had good success with the Super 77 spray. I keep a spray bottle of goo gone in shop and it cleans the residue up nicely.

Well now I know where to go when mine eventually runs out haha!
