I’m getting ready to heat treating a few knives I’ve made out of 52100. These are not forged, only stock removal. I read this article by
Larrin
to determine how to go about it.
https://knifesteelnerds.com/2019/05/13/how-to-heat-treat-52100/
It mentions a series of normalizing steps, followed by a quench and then cryo and tempering. Then I referenced Larrins book, and it only mentions a 1500-1525° austenitizing, followed by a temper. No mention of the thermal cycling steps in the above article. So, can someone with more knowledge than me tell me which would be e best protocol to follow?
