52100

This is my 52100 Military BBQ/grilling knife. Sees lots of meat juices and sauces. I love it.

Finally mine arrived from the secondary market. Hasn't been used but carried, shows some light pepper spots of rust.
Just oiled it and took it out in the forest for some pictures.
Impressive blade, nice and grippy cf, factory edge feels pretty sharp.

Nice, look forward to hearing what you think after carrying it for awhile.

I had a custom knife made for me in 52100 before my first deployment. I was used to HI knives in 5160, which can rust, but aren't especially prone.

I used it at home and washed it, but put it in the dishrack to dry instead of drying it myself. Mistake.

When I got up the next morning, I found rust freckles on the knife. I got them off, then degreased the blade and cold blued it. I carefully dry and oil it after every use, and have had no more rust issues.

One of the nice things about 52100 is it's ability to refine to a super fine grain. It allows for a really fine cutting edge. It's a super tough alloy too. The fact that it's not stainless doesn't bother me, in fact I prefer a nice patina on a knife, either forced or use based.

Vtoku2 is fairly similar to 52100 and also shares those traits- super fine edge, tough, easy to sharpen, will rust, decently priced.

It whittles hickory very well. Did just that earlier today. Great steel.

There WAS a Military in 52100 on the exchange last week. Finally got that backup I’ve been wanting. :D Love that knife, only duplicate in my entire collection.

52100 is a great steel. Spyderco's 52100 hold up significantly better than S30V from my experience.

I have a PM 2 in 52100 , only reason I don't carry it more is the potential for rust if I forget to wipe it down . Have you compared it to M4 ??

52100 is great steel. I just stropped the PM2 on the strops in the picture and it is back to shaving sharp.
I also have a Manix 2 with 52100 DLC coated steel that I never carry but it is crazy sharp as well.

I’m watching the exchange for one of these everyday!!
I had a Millie and a PM2 in 52100 that I sold a year or two back as part of a downsizing. There was next to zero interest in them even though they were new and unused, and ultimately both of them sold for well under what I paid for them new from an authorized dealer. It's funny how folks' attitudes change over time.

The same thing can be said of Barlows for traditional knife enthusiasts. A couple of years ago, you couldn't give them away. Today, they go on the exchange very quickly despite being a design that has been around forever.
