has anyone ordered one of these Gavilan assortments recently?
If so I'm curious to see what you ended up receiving.

I'm not questioning the quality of these no nonsense working tools, I just wanna know what patterns I can expect to arrive in the mail ( hopefully SG isn't backed up right now or anything ) considering the fact that the stock photo is just an example.

I know I definitely wouldn't mind trying the Panga and the billhook machete, but beyond that I'd probably give the others away if they're standard Latin patterns which I've already got.

gavilian de incolma colombia?
no hay ningun problema!
I believe they should be Incolma made machetes , my question is which machete patterns people have been getting more recently.
I already ordered them so I have to see for myself when they arrive anyways, I just figured I'd try to get an idea.

I would love to hear the answer myself. Please post when yours arrive.

This does not shed any light on your question, but a while back I ordered the Tramontina 5-pack from the guys who specialize in machetes. I received bush machetes in 12”, 21” and 24” lengths, a 14” bolo, and a cane machete. I like the bolo for light stuff around the yard, but any hard wood, dead wood or thick branches will roll the blade. The long ones are good in tall grass. The 12” I gave away, and the cane knife just sits. They are all of lighter stock than my 18-inch Tramontina, which is more widely useful.

I will be curious to see what you get from Incolma.

I have found my Imicasa / marbles machetes to hold up very well, but I do keep the edges on the blunter side for durability.
Maybe one of these I will keep sharper for specific needs, or just put a good edge back on the 18" marbles ( that would be easier anyways)

Yep wonder if yours will be neat like those or just junk.

They will all be good serviceable Incolma made machetes , but I do hope I get patterns that prove useful to me for sure.

They make these dumb " survival " machetes with a saw back and bottle opener...ect which were in the mix a couple years ago, but hopefully I don't get one of those.
If I do I'll give it to my brother and tell him it's a Colombian special ops survival tool or something :D

somehow it makes no sense that these are surplus military. its just my opinion but i figure anything with a "military surplus" lable is a neat way to stir interest ...

My thoughts as well, but most places tend to want $10 or so + shipping for just one, yet they can sell you 5 for only $30 + shipping ?
They have to be getting some kind of deal on them , gotta be surplus or something.

I could see if they're accepting whatever Incolma will give them to fill the contract at cost, that's the only way I can see a cane machete being military surplus.

I think they are just old stock, production overruns, blems and the like. I did see a machete catalog a few years back that listed prices for wholesalers, dealers and retailers. Very cheap, like $3-$5., perhaps less.

BUDK used to sell Imacasa machetes, then closed them out a wholesale prices and went with Incolma for awhile. They often had 2/$10 deals with free shipping. No more.

I saw a wholesaler in Florida listing prices for China machetes from $2.50 to $4. and Tramontinas from $4. - $7. They are cheap tools.

They are an inexpensive tool, but prices are generally rising these days.
All I know is multiple places list them as military surplus , doesn't change what the tools are it just gives some sort of explanation for the deal you're getting.

A couple years ago, I received two identical 19.5" tapangas, two long pangas with different name stamps and one 12" Latin type Gavilan with a real twist in the blade just forward of the handle. I would have preferred a more diverse selection. I did get free shipping at the time.

I expect you're gonna get the least popular models and one or two you'll like at the minimum. course could be the least popular are the ones ya like. either way good pile of steel for working with. if price is right, that ain't a bad thing.

Hopefully I get a bit luckier than you did.
Most of all I just wanna try a billhook A panga and 24" Latin would be nice but I can't really be too picky for the price.
