#6375 Case Large Stockman

I want to love the amber bone, but most I've seen in person were too light or had too much orange for my liking.

I took my CV STJ 032 amber bone and dyed it with coffee and tea, turned out awesome. took away the bright orange and darkened up the light bone. very happy with it.

After reading your thread, I'll be getting 6375 amber bone. I'm interested to see how it ages naturally.

Hoping the hardware store still has them in stock!

There are quite a few variations in the amberbone. Personally, if I ran into one like the OPs, I'd snatch that up in a heartbeat. Most leave too much unjigged and too white for my liking. If you find a CV 6375 at your local hardware store, I'd be impressed. Too much SS out there.

Not sure why it took me so long to join in this great thread...

I was brought up a CASE boy/man and to this day have a strong loyalty to the brand. The #6375 is a favorite of mine although I don't pocket carry mine very often---it tends to occupy the coat pocket of my Carhartt jacket:)

here is my Red Bone 1977 #6375...

paulhilborn,

That's GORGEOUS! I love that old red bone. That's just a beautiful Stockman - stunning! I wish they would at least come out with Chestnut bone in all their CV models, including the 6375 of course (and the Texas Jack!).

Carhartt? I love anything Carhartt :D

Thank you AZ, I appreciate your compliment. I wish I daily carried this gem more often but due to the size the Carhartt is it's home. I actually find myself using it more from the Fall on due to the Carhartt being a daily wear;)

I am now tempted to pick up a recent model know due to this thread:D

Now back to Carhartt---that seems to dominate the bulk of my daily work wear:p

I've had this one for 6 weeks now and it's totally dominated the #1 spot in my EDC line-up. The 81 stockman or this 6375 are nearly the only thing I carry anymore.

That is pretty awesome. I wish Case could duplicate that.

paulhilborn,

WOW, WOW, WOW!!! That 5375 has me drooling on the keyboard here - very nice. You're killing me here with these Stockman pics, lol (but keep 'em coming if you have more!) :D

WFC,

No kidding, Chestnut is the only thing even close to that Red Bone. It's got to be Case's most beautiful - at least that I've seen.

Excellent knives on show here, and many that are used which is pleasing.

I see the makings of a Big Cult coming on....:D

I made the mistake or re-titling the Album names in my Photobucket and all my pics are now gone from this thread (and probably every other post I've done over the last several months - grrrr!). My computer or internet service (not sure which) makes replacing them difficult as I keep getting errors when I try to re-upload them into each post. Over time I'll do it as it occasionally works but 90% of the time it fails. I did manage to get post #1 pics back up. Will work on the others later as I'm able.

Whatever you do... DO NOT RE-NAME your Photobucket Albums or you'll lose EVERYTHING IN THEM as far as what you've posted here in the forum.

Here's one taken today though. I can post NEW pics no problem, but trying to EDIT the posts here fails about 90% of the time. Not sure why but it's a chronic problem for me.

After nearly two months of EDC... :)

I LOVE the stockman pattern!
Excellent blade selection and sturdy buggers.
Although I really prefer my 1971 6347 stockman, I will jump on an old 6375 if the stars line up just right. I'm not too fond of glued in shields and SS traditional slip joints.
Another excuse for me not buying the 6375 is the fact that my GEC #81 (African Blackwood) Abilene stockman is basically the same yet feels much tougher than the newer 6375s I've handled.

I have a #81 in AB also and it's def an awesome Stockman. If it's not this 6375 in my RFP then it's the #81.

Can you elaborate on the difference in the two knives? I have several case knives but haven't pulled the trigger on a gec yet, mostly due to the cost difference...but also due to availability of covers that I like. Interested in what you like or don't like a bout the two models.

The 81 is a bit smaller than the 6375. I'd really like to see GEC do the 81 with a clip that is more like the Case knife.... The clip on the 81 is more like an old Western with a really sharp angle on the spine. I'd like to see something a little rounder.... maybe something between the Dixie Stockman clip and the Abilene Clip. I'd also really like to see GEC step up their jigging. The recent peachseed jigging was pretty good on the TC Barlows, but I'd like to see something more like an old Schrade with a little more randomness to the pattern. They could also go more Robeson or some Corn Cob. I'd really like to see that.

If the bone is right on a CV Case, I'll take the Case over the GEC even if the price was the same. It's bigger and more robust which is what I'm looking for in that knife. I like Case's jigged chestnut or redbone better than what GEC offers when it's right..... in new knives Case is often not quite right in the dye and GEC is more consistent. I'm not a big fan of Case's Amberbone, but Arizonaranch man's example is quite the exception. I really like that knife.

IMHO the Case large Stockman is more heavy-duty in construction (and larger of course) than the GEC 81 - it's simply beefier and more robust in it's build. Don't get me wrong, the 81 is better in F&F of course (it's double the price so this can be expected) and it's the clear winner in it's beauty. But when push came to shove I'd probably say the large Stockman would stand up better to abuse. It's blades are thicker and seem to lend to this. The pic below is my 81 alongside my 6375. I love both knives, but when I know I'm gonna be performing more strenuous tasks I'd pick my 6375. The 81 is no slouch by any means, it's plenty big and sturdy, but don't scoff at the 6375 just because it's less than half the price, it's a workhorse.

The liners on the Case large Stockman are also heavier/thicker than the 81.

I know what you mean. That picture pushed me over the edge to get mine awhile ago. Thanks to enablers.
