A busy weekend

Each Christmas, the kids give us gift certificates for the local "big time" theater, the Fabulous Fox.
We got tickets for Chicago, in town only over the weekend.

Chicago is a great show, with signature Fosse-choreographed dance numbers and plenty of funny, bawdy songs. (They didn't do a bad job with the film, BTW...)
Great production, the two female leads (Velma and Roxie) had been in these roles on Broadway, and the male lead was handled well by Tom Wopat.

That was Saturday, and the wife and I both work on weekends. Sunday night, we drove to "historic" Mt. Olive Illinois, for an intimate concert at Turner Hall with Tom Russell and Gretchen Peters.
We've been Russell fans for about 20 years (maybe more...), he's a great songwriter and a vastly underrated performer. (Letterman likes him...)
First time we've seen Peters, but she's a great songwriter with many hits in the country field. (Independence Day for one)
Unlike a lot of songwriters, she's a fine performer as well, with a great voice and damn fine guitar skills.
In this small (maybe 200-250 people) venue, both performers were loose and put on a good show, much to the appreciation of the audience.

Now we're relaxing....
