A few reasons why I am switching from Benchmade to Spyderco.

No prob bro. I get the same way when someone posts this stuff about Spydie, Pro Tech, ZT.............

Benchmade used to be one of my favorites, but the my last 2BMs had serious QC problems that required trips to their repair dept. The 940-1 (S90V and $$$) blade was scrapping the inner liner and the 710 (M390) blade tip was sticking up too far (it was barely flush with the handle). I cut my fingers and palm reaching into my pocket! The 710 is still one of my favorites, but I am not buying any more BMs until the QC improves-these were expensive knives. Never had a problem with any of my spydies.

I get it, you like Benchmades and don't appreciate reading negative comments about them. Yes, I know how to use a thumb stud, but I probably should have been a little more specific. The one on the Mini Barrage and 710 was positioned properly, I could easily flip the blade open using the thumb stud. The thumb studs on the 485, 940, and 15080 in my opinion, others may disagree are positioned too close to the handle and are awkward to use. I could have just pulled down on the Axis Lock and flipped the blade open, but the knife should have been designed better especially at that price.

Not really - I am a fan but not a fanboy of BM so constructive yet negative comments are all fine with me. I just don't like people making non-issues or very rare issues into serious issues. (I criticize BM's poor bevel grind BTW). I have a BNIB Spyderco military with a stripped screw but that does not prevent me from liking the knife and purchasing or planning to purchase more of it because I think it is a very rare issue. Heck, I am a fan of most brands that I have tried, including Spyderco, BM, ZT, and Cold Steel.

I'm not a fanboy either, I don't place Benchmade products in the junk category, Spyderco knives seem to work better for me. The thumb stud thing turned into a design issue for me because it involved knives that I really wanted to use and enjoy. I also ran into a grind issue with a Benchmade Volli.

I have carried a VG-10 Delica just about every day this summer. And I'm probably more biased towards Spyderco,

I own and use both brands, and there are models from each brand that I really like, although these days I buy far more Spyderco models than Benchmade models. And that 908 is an awesome knife.

Nothing cuts like a Spyderco.

I've ended up selling every Benchmade I've had because I never felt like they cut as well. Maybe it's just the way I use a knife, but I love Spyderco's thin grinds.

With shiny footprints and all... Benchmade has a better warranty and Spyderco makes a better knife. Benchmade makes better looking knives and Spyderco makes better performing knives.

I am one person who has had Omega springS fail. IMO the Axis lock is just a toy.

I love the axis lock, although the Omega spring is the single most fragile element of any knife I own, for sure.

I'm waiting impatiently for the Sage 5 to grow my pathetically small Spyderco collection.

The problem with Benchmade, for me, is a dearth of useful, appealing designs. I can think of at least five Spydercos off the top of my head that I would drop money on; when I look at the BM catalog, my eyes glaze over in a blur of recurves, swedges, excessive choils, and tactical-looking design elements.

The 555HG is an outstanding tool, thanks largely to the clever incorporation of a round aperture in the blade that your thumb goes in, and I miss my HK Enigma (sadly discontinued, rest in pieces). I'll probably get a full size Griptilian by and by, but the rest of the catalog is not doing it for me.

If BM wants any more of my money, they need to let form follow function on at least some of their folders. Show me some ugly knives with comfortable handles and simple grinds, please.

Benchmade makes a good product and all of the better makers are trying hard to win their market. As mentioned, "all good, just different".

Although I do not own a Benchmade there are several (2) models on my wish list. I do own six different Spyderco models and will definitely add more in the future. The quality and value of Spyderco knives are just superb.

Never had a Benchmade with any issues and haven't had one that didn't out cut the Spyderco's I had at the time to compare to, and out of box sharpness was basically the same. Acura lock is a pro not a con for me. That said, I don't have any Benchmades right now, and 2 Spydercos.

I agree, Benchmade products have many strong points, especially their warranty. Spyderco knives fit me much better and I trust their locking mechanisms far more than the Axis Lock. At this time the only Benchmade left in my small collection is the Benchmade Big Summit Lake with CPM S30V steel. I am looking forward to adding more Spyderco's though.

Try one of these. Only BM I own

The Acura lock...that must be new :)

I've never problem with customer service. They send omega springs for free if you ask nicely - they offer free warranty repair but you can tell them that you prefer repair it yourself and you can manage dissasemble/assemble. They offer sending your knife to them at first place because they're afraid like almost every company* that you'll disassemble knife and will be not able to assemble it properly again. Also they can send pocket clip for free, Spyderco wants money, so Benchmade imho has more friendly customer service for now. I own Spyderco and Benchmade, in my opinion they're equal quality, just different in design.

*If I'm correct only Emerson and CRK have no problem with disassemble knife by customer.

Maybe a Benderco collaboration.

The best of each....

I really like both.
