A question about the serial number on 0550

So.... the story is.... I bought my ZT0550 which numbered 0393 brand new from BladeHQ in February, and never left my pocket.
And I recently saw a video on youtube that an Italian(maybe) got another 0550 which had exactly the same number as my. I don't know what this means, but every serial number should be unique right?

Here is a screen cap for you. And for some reason this seems to be a common "problem" lately. I know it doesn't really mean much, but it is weird.

Thats weird. It can only be a Youtube window into a parallel world, where a silent italian is handling your knife. It still sucks for those who think they've got a unique knife because of a "special" number.

thank you Scott for the cap!
Im not so frustrating, but is this mean the number from ZT means nothing? So we can't tell how much or the era it made by serial numbers now.

Serial number is not a serial number if it's not unique. Could this just be error in manufacturing process? I noticed one difference in the two blades - check out the alignment of the "Hinderer Design" in relation to "MADE IN USA" text. They differ. My 0550 serial is 0399 and the text alignment is the same as in the screen cap.

Hmm... that is super odd. I will ask our product specialist about this tomorrow.

This is rather disturbing

As Mika pointed out the etching placement is a little different.

I dont think either are fake. What is more likely is either someone forgot their starbucks or the laser was on the fritz.

Could have been a late night with lots of booze. Its happened to me before.

I chalk it up to human error. Went to lunch and came back laser was set for #0610 couldn't remember if that was the next one or the one that was just engraved. And all of the engraved knives had been boxed up and moved from the work area. I would say that it has also happened the other way, that is with a # getting skipped.

My best guess and no one would have been the wiser if it wasn't for this forum.;)

BTW I love mine it is glass smooth! Smoother than my Tilt if that is possible without KVT.

I would guess neither one is fake. My #0610 is perfect in every way and Reek's looks to be the same. I know the Chinese are making some great well made fake Striders so it could happen.

uh oh...one is either a fake or it's a BIG marketing blunder...

But Prez if that were the case, why is the made in USA aligned differently on them? Both copies have the same alignment while the other copies match as well. Its like there were two runs done with a different alignment of the engraving

Hey it aint all that bad. The best one was a 0400 I had received. It was completely sterile with no markings whatsoever except for the ZT logo on the clip. Wish i would have kept that.

The font size and alignment on my 0551 are the same as on my 0550. I wish someone from ZT/Kershaw would weigh in on this.
