a set of stones - sharpening question

I have decided to go get a large, flat diamond hone for my sharpening tasks, due to what I have read and what steels / ceramic blades are in my possession.

If I keep after the blades, would a fine hone be all I need, or will there be a need for a medium, as well?

The only reason you would want a more coarse one (from a speed of steel removal viewpoint) would be to remove significant visible damage.

One good thing about diamond stones is the more pressure you apply, the coarser the cut, and the less pressure you apply, the finer the edge will be. Of course, you will not get a polished edge with a coarse stone, but you can get a good edge with a coarse stone if that is all you have.
