Someone may have accused me of being a Becker fanboy, and I want to clear this up right now: I am.
I’m a Becker Backer to the bone.
I like Becker knives. I like Ethan's designs, and I like his philosophy; good, strong, well designed knives for hard work, at a price people can afford. Not cheap knives, mind you, but very, very good knives at an affordable price. Knives that he personally stands behind. There’s nothing pretentious about Becker knives. They’re not shiny toys that the wealthy keep in their safes as a status symbol, they’re just tough, outstanding, working knives that you can bet your life on
I like that KA-BAR is the company producing Becker knives. I can’t think of a company Ethan could have partnered with that would have been better than KA-BAR, period. Paul Tsujimoto (Toooj) of KA-BAR has demonstrated that he stands behind the product in the same way that Ethan does, and that’s pretty special. I can’t think of any other big knife companies that have ever impressed me as much as Toooj and KA-BAR have, and that takes some doing. Toooj has made me a KA-BAR fan for life.
I like the community here on the Becker forum, too. There are some really good people who visit this forum, and it’s those people — you people — who make this place special for me. We have a lot of fun on this forum, and we share a lot of good thoughts and information, too. Not only do we share among ourselves, but Ethan Becker himself pops in, and so does Toooj. It’s not every forum that has people like that as regular contributors.
I also have to mention Bladite — our esteemed moderator — too. Some of you may not even be aware of how important he is to this forum. I could point to the FAQ’s as just one example of what he’s done. Yep, he did those all by himself, which was a lot of work. Aside from that though, is his work as moderator: we’re lucky to have him, folks. We could have gotten someone who ran the forum with a rough hand, stifling anything other than dull, boring stuff... but we didn’t. Instead we got someone who has a good sense of humor, is flexible, and contributes to threads himself. Oh, and by the way, I don’t think anyone knows more about Becker knives than Bladite, period.
Add all that up, and it says something, at least to me. It says that Becker rocks.
Me, a Becker fanboy? Yep, and proud of it.
