African Watering Hole Webcam

I was watching between 11:30 and 11: 50 AM today and saw someone or something pass right in front of the camera. All I could see was a sillouhette and it looked to be walking upright, like a human being. Is the camera "manned," or entirely self-operating? Or was it an African Bigfoot?

Just saw a whole mess of water buffalo (or something like that) wandering past on the first link. The vid and sound quality was quite good! Very cool, thanks for sharing.

The camera followed a "family?" of Giraffe, at least for the thirty or forty minutes I was watching, around 8:30-9:00 this morning. There was a large adult, a smaller adult and an adolescent. I also saw what looked to be a few gazelle-like animals, also. That's the first wildlife I've seen, except birds.

..... Is the camera "manned," or entirely self-operating?....

I'm pretty sure it's "unmanned"; the "tracking and zooming" would be pretty easy to accomplish with software. One of my webcams works like that. It locks on anything that moves across its field of view, then zooms in on it and tracks it.

When I click on the link Bok provided, it downloads a .asf file. How do you make this work? My iMac seems to not be able to recognize it. I wanna watch the animals get a drink.
(I once heard that only the elephant does not fear to approach a water hole)

I don't think it works on a a Mac. My sister uses one at work and couldn't get the link to work but had no trouble when she got home to her PC.

OK then. If some old guy walks by the water hole named Dr Livingston, I presume you guys will let me know.

It works on my eMac,I've seen some swallows skimming the water for a drink and a small herd of something, maybe gazelles.
Pretty  .

At 10:15PM 12/1/06 I was watching two wildebeast drinking and they went off to the right to exit and the camera picked up several zebras beyond the bush. A vehicle went by the zebras and the camera dropped for a second then came back up to focs on the zebras. The camera would not follow the vehicle.

It only changes the field of view at certain times during the day, so I guess this camera could be "manned" ("womanned"?) and moved remotely by someone at the ranger station.

I see that, the other day I saw a big bull elephant. A friend saw some lions passing through. The best viewing here is from 6:00 to 12: PM Alaska time.

I think I saw some zebra earlier. On another forum people were saying they saw antelope.

Christmas at 04:00 hours I saw 2 exhausted lions restng under the trees.Later I saw the male feasting on the rump of a large buffalo & when he had his fill the lioness took over as he
patroled the area. Several hours later a pride of about 6 or 7 moved in & picnicced.

Besides them I've seen several varities of deer-like animals,a giraffe & many zebras.

Son told me there is a similar device along the Alaskan but didn't have it's url. It would be great to view it also. I am dating several ladies now & there must be something about those animals that increases their libido !

Uncle Alan:cool: :D
