What covers are these?

I wish there was a resource we could reference to see what all Eric has made over the years. GEC's website has spoiled me.

Jeff is correct, it’s Ringed Gidgee.

I have wondered if Eric keeps a complete list. Sometimes I’ll refer back to his drop emails, but I know that doesn’t cover everything.

GEC’s production totals definitely go above and beyond when it comes to that kind of information.

Here’s another pic of the Ringed Gidgee. It’s a beautiful wood!

I’m going to have to add that to my list of “wants”. Ringed Gidgee is just as good as Snakewood in my opinion. Very nice!

I just received these two beauts in the mail.

Unfortunately the clip has some blade rap, is this common for the clips? It has a nice stout pull and great action. It just seems a bit too stout from half stop to close.

I’ve heard some of the earlier ones had blade rap but if had a few pass through my hands (even some from the first few runs with the offset shield) and never seen one with rap. Seems pretty uncommon to have the issue.

One recommendation. Sometimes blade rap is cause by the blade accidentally being pressed inward while closed. This can cause the blade to contact the spring and dull the edge if pressed hard enough. It’s sometimes very difficult to see, but if you can shine a light down there while the blade is closed sometimes you can see if the blade actually contacts the spring or not.

If I'm wanting to sharpen out this blade rap, what angle should I sharpen at to match the existing bevel?

30 degrees should be fine. In my opinion, a fat bevel does not belong on a traditional. Plus, if you’re looking to remove steel it’ll take longer at 20 degrees.

You can always lay the angle down a bit once the rap is sharpened out if you want, but you can’t undo a fat bevel without thinning the whole blade.

(Allocasuarina luehmannii), a relative of She-oak, is known as the hardest wood in the world!!! And it can be quite beautiful!!

We don’t get much sheoak where I live, but lots of Buloke. I have some I harvested myself drying at the moment to use for a couple of fixed blade handles. It’s probably not as striking as sheoak but still an interesting grain structure.

Here’s some sheoak.

Because of their grain structure oak often splits when you least want it to. How does the sheoak behave in knife handles? It's very beautiful!
