Tyson ... i (fwiw) really read this just as people having fun. True Political discussion i find tobe much, much more caustic.....

Fwiw
I appreciate that perspective, and would have felt the same way a few years ago. I don't know what country you live in, but I've watched political polarization get really extreme in the last decade or so here in the US. I've lost friends, both left and right, because I wasn't okay with casually hating and vilifying people on the other side. I've watched the inevitable result of that being rising political violence.

So when Stacy says he wants me and 39 million Americans to die because he's peeved at a minor law that doesn't apply to him, I know it's just hyperbole. But eventually, when you dehumanize people when you don't like their politics, it becomes easier to commit violence against them. Enough of this kind of talk makes it easier for people to eventually pull triggers or beat policemen to death with a flagpole.

I like that BF is a place that allows people with wildly different politics to still interact civilly and cooperatively (outside the politics subforum, at least). So it's extremely disappointing to have this kind of vile crap shown up here, especially when the mod is participating, not shutting it down.

Wait so saying something to the effect of California falling into the ocean due to a giant earthquake which for the better part of my 45 years of life has been a running figure of speech no matter where you live in this country (California included, I lived there) is now somehow a political statement and an evil declaration that he wants everyone there to die?? Good grief! Someone needs to lighten up.

Come on guys, can't we all have a little fun without getting all wound up!

The topic was California banning denatured alcohol and other common things like black socks. Folks are just having some fun with it. I'll close the thread if it is upsetting Californians.

It is all in fun.

Oh btw Stacy here are some strange laws were you live.
Just make sure you do not tickle a woman while having sex with the lights on while spitting on a Seagull 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Strange Virginia Laws

As a Virginia resident, you should know that it is technically illegal to:

  • Use profane, indecent, or threatening language on the phone. This includes the language you use in your text messages.
  • Tickle a woman. Men, however, may be tickled.
  • Hunt any animal other than a raccoon on a Sunday. If you are going to hunt a raccoon on a Sunday, however, you must do so by 2 a.m.
  • Have sex with the lights on.
  • Have sex outside of marriage. This is punishable as a Class 4 misdemeanor.
Additionally, different counties and municipalities have their own strange laws. For example, it is:

  • Illegal to flip a coin to decide who pays for coffee in Richmond.
  • Illegal to wash a mule on the sidewalk in Culpeper.
  • Illegal to spit on a seagull in Norfolk.
  • Illegal for a woman to be out at night in Norfolk unless she is wearing a corset and is accompanied by a male chaperon.
  • Legal for a man to beat his wife on the courthouse steps in Stafford County as long as he does it before 8 p.m.

Tyson - i live in minnesota. I hear you, clearly the current political environment has taken a toll on you and left you with many injuries. I agree that many are quick to demonize "the other" (i was once driving near Birmingham, and saw this *huge* billboard declaring all democrats as evil incarnate. Now, i declare myself as an independent, and i truly see value in some (but not all) of the stances of both parties .. but still it left me wondering how "safe" i was). I will not minimize your hurt at the loss of friends over differences that are at times just plain stupid. But i do think people here are just trying to have fun - something sorely needed these days ... and true humor almost always is based on some observation of differences ... but it is that which allows us to learn from it? (For example, i grew up in Massachusetts, .... *dont* get me going on how some of the bureaucracy, and restrictive laws are just plain dumb...).

I think it is more just plain observation rather than condemnation or hate....

Yes, Adam, those are a few of the funny colonial statutes some never made it into current law but were never officially repealed. Some were taken care of by the general assembly and local cities/counties recently. Until a few years ago it was illegal to have oral sex, even if you were a married couple.
