Alternatives to Nalgene Lexan Canteens?

Sigg was mentioned earlier- they make good bottles- You cant boil in them but since u had a nalgene before i guess it wouldnt be a big deal- but the sigg bottles are good, dent easily, but won't break and you cant taste that there metal

My biggest concern is that several members of my family use SIGG bottles for stove fuel, and I'm a bit nervous about all the possibilities for a mix-up. Even if you didn't drink the Coleman fuel, you could still be hurting if you found out a little too late that you had a quart less water than you'd thought.

i carry a nalgene, along with a host of constantly changing refilled water and gatorade bottles.

i am looking into getting one of those metal drinking containers like the guyott

very good info in this thread, thanks everyone.

I've really dug the nalgene cup. I buy them now standard for all my bottles.

Wow, those Guyots are heavy, about a pound for the liter size. The clean canteens aren't much better at 12 oz. FYI Nalgenes are 6oz and platypus is 1oz.

I like the Platypus bottles:thumbup:

DITTOS !! i have several bottles in two sizes, they are of high quality and are tough as nails. i like the fact that they can be used as hot water bottles to warm up at night or ease a bad back. they can be very quiet if you sqeeze the air out and seal it tight, no sloshing around.

they also have a great line of accessories, such as, patches, drinking tubesw/ bite valves, filter hookups, carry bags etc. they go great in survival kits instead of condoms and such. just get the .5 L or the 1 L size and roll it up. they are VERY light weight and roll into a small package.

you cant go wrong with a Platypus! - Eric

That's a good question. The ones I see lately seem to be plastic--but the old ones were aluminum, no? Do they also nest into those cooking pots in a belt pouch, or am I thinking of something else?

you got it right. The ones they issue now are some kind of thick plastic and nest inside a kidney shaped aluminum canteen cup which fits in a pouch with the canteen. Most of the time the canteens have a cap with a little valve in it that accepts a straw which goes from the canteen to a similar valve in a gas mask.

That being said camelbacks have started replacing canteens for the most part.
