Here's the first steps of a custom knife made according (at least I'm trying :D ) to a previous customer's ideas.

He wanted "a knife can be made similar to your 'Rope & Cable drop point' but with chain", with the chain pattern carried to the handle.

He sent me some pics of his ideas for the handle and shape of the knife and we arranged a san mai damascus blade with the links of the chain showing on the sides and an epoxyed handle over chain, to prevent dirt to get inside the links and to provide a warmer grip.

Knife design and measures.

Some emails back and forth and here's the result so far:

Prepared chain and core steel to be forged:

Already welded and took to first shape.

Partially ground blade (this only side is ground so far)
If I continued the swedge it would loose most of the chain factor, so we arranged to leave it that way.

I like it! :D Can't wait to see how you bring the blade & handle together! Always enjoy the pixs, Ariel...thank you.

One of the most unusual and coolest knives I've seen in a long time and I thought there were no new knife design ideas left. Thanks for the pics
Peace
Bob

Finished blade with guard and handle.

I'm in the process of carving the handle now to make it comfortable when I wrap the chain on the wood.

You do some crazy crap, Ariel.

YIKES! From a simple drawing to this... you're cookin', Ariel! :D If I haven't mentioned it lately... I love your work!

NICE. That's about all I can say. Your work is unique and always a pleasure to look at.

For those who didn't believe me I had bought the chain on a pet store... :D

I believe ya! I believe ya! Now I'll never be able to walk my dog again without thinking... "Hmmmnnn... this chain would make a fine looking knife." :D

When I finished the handle, I realized it was too heavy and bulky to be handled comfortable, so I hammered it down to break it and started all over again.

This time, instead of wood, I wrapped the spine with some clothing embedded in resin.

Then I wrapped the chain over the sticky clothing and prepared a plastic can to fill later with more resin and get a handle like shape to work on later.

Once I taped it to the guard to prevent leakage, I filled in the can with liquid resin.

Cutting the mold to get rid of it.

Rough handle shape.

Sanding the resin to get it to shape to later polish it on the bench.
