Anaconda attack, Would your folder save you?

I just saw a clip of a guy being attacked by a big snake, its either an anaconda or a python ( those large ones that squeeze you to death)

It took something like 12 men to release him from its grip. Now,

I know that carrying a knife for SD against an anaconda in a city would be like wearing a helmet at all times in London just in case a coconut falls on your head but :)

If that guy had a folding knife, would he be able to cut himself free? if there was no one around?

I tried to find the clip again to post it here but I couldn't. If someone can find it, please post it.

I'm sure that if you had enough time/life left in you and that you could access and open the folder, you could easily cut the snake in half.

Two reasons, the snake's attack is more complex than just squeezing, it actualy directs pressure to the heart, it targets the heart, so you die fast. Also how would you deploy the folder and would you get the leverage and postioning to cut through the snake quick enough before it stopped your heart? On a related subject is a folder really an appropriate self defense tool, could you get it out while someone was on top of you, pounding on you and wrapping up your arms?

Nope, a folder is nothing if you are attacked by a dog or a lion. I thought it might be against a snake because its long and has no arms :D like a rope :D

Nope .... you might be able to someone get you folder out and damage the snake enough that it will die much later, but more than likely you would not even know what was happening till you were passed out.

we have a large number of anaconda attacks in arkansas and just about all are resolved by the proper application of a sharp knife. As a friend of mine always said in a situation like this you are on the incentive plan, kill the snake or die. I think even a sak would be deadly in the hands of a man being squeezed to death. so yes a folder would work, I think. however I don't want to put it to the test. interesting question though. later, ahgar

I would think a folder would help in any animal or reptile attack. Though I have never been put in that situation. Atleast if I did die they would know that I died trying to get away.

I think as long as you didn't have both arms being squeezed or you could get to the folder early you'd be fine.

I would cut the crap out of that thing. I highly doubt that it could keep squeezing while cut in half or sliced down the middle about 2 feed long.

Yeah, we have a lot of problems with both Pythons and Anacondas in Tennessee. They have the same geographic distribution as the Cotton Mouth. Better have a big SAK and start whittling away before you're crushed. Most Pythons and Anacondas that I see are made by Colt. If I'm in South America where the Colt varieties are less common, I would have me a BIG fixed blade and hope that I could get my hands on it.

"Facts: The largest anaconda ever measured was almost 28 feet long with a girth of 44 inches. She wasn't weighed at the time she was caught, but scientists estimate that she must have weighed over 500 lbs."

Cutting this one in half with a folding knife would probably even be a daunting task for a cuda max. :-o

I'll tell you one thing.. Id give it a try. I think if I had my right arm free, and could access a large sharp folder in my pocket, yea...
remember in conan when he put his sword right up through the bottom jaw of the snake?

I think a vicious dog attack is more likely in my area. Assuming you could get to the knife, I think you could dispatch the dog without too much trouble if he didn't have ahold of your knife hand.

I have no doubt that my Victorinox Classic would be up to the task. Not only would I be able to deploy it with plenty of time to spare, but the length of the blade would surely be sufficient to cut through the snake.

If that failed, I'd snip it with the scissors.

A 14ft constrictor can kill, but not eat, you. If you had your knife arm free, and the knife wasn't covered with a coil, you could probably kill a 14 footer. The bigger 'condas can kill, and eat, a caiman. Also, factor in a 'conda's hunting grounds, the water. Odds are good you wouldn't see it coming and by the time you did you'd be submerged with several hundred pounds of force on your ribcage. I'd bet on the snake. Your odds would be better against one of the ground dwelling pythons but I still wouldn't want to face a big retic, even with a machete. They've been known to take down, and eat, wild boar. By the time they break the 20ft/ 200lb mark I wouldn't willingly face one with any edged weapon.

Ohhhhh Jesus :jerkit:
Do a search for "Everglades Pythons"
I just got done posting an obnoxious post on the Balisong Ghetto knives page yesterday  .

I've been " wrapped" by a python ( friends pet).. Just a 12-13 footer.. Maybe 60-70 lbs ???
Not sure.. Pretty heavy and POWERFUL..
I didn't kill it.. I could have.I was toting a Buck 119
This thing was STRONG !
My friend laughed and un did him.

I've caught 6-8-10 footers in Flamingo ( Everglades National Park) by hand.
POWERFUL little creatures.
Oh. a 12 footer is 10 times stronger than an 8 footer.. same as a gator.

Gators ? Yep.
Any fairly strong man can grab a six footer.. A real badass might grab an 8 footer.
Only a fool would grab a 10 footer.

Ever seen a folding baseball bat ?
Ya know why ? :jerkit:

A huge snake needs a machete, or more.

Folders are for office folk, whittlers and boy scouts.
That aint a knock on folders .

Dont pull a 30 foot boat with an Accord and don't rely on a folding knife as defence for anything other than a crackhead..

I see another voice of reason beat me by 4 minutes..
BTW Silver.
Pythons do water VERY well.. not like a " ' conda"
Fortunately. I dont THINK we have those here ... YET..
Least I aint seen one.. Thank God :o
