My father and I got into making home-made blackberry wine last year and made a bigger batch this year. We've had some really great fun with it.

Firstly, it's very interesting; you can make it taste how you want (with practice), with different levels of alcohol, and with different fruit, etc. You can get scientific with it if you wish, or you can just throw some stuff in a bucket and see how it goes. Either way, it's terribly interesting and very easy to learn.

Secondly, it yields really fantastic wine, IMHO. The stuff we made with little to no experience is really great (again, YMMV).

Thirdly, it's nice to see it fermenting day after day, bubbling away, working for you all the time. It's very peaceful and fulfilling to see it do its magic.

Anyone else tried their hand at making their own wine?

I make beer, wine, cider (still and especially sparkling), and even from time-to-time champagne.

I have made wine and cider in the past but for the past decade or so it's been just beer.
