Anybody ELSE just sick unto DEATH of carbon fiber scales?

I have HATED carbon fiber scales or any other CF gadget until joining this forum and seeing some examples of the CF Shred, which has really grown in me.

Sent via telegraph with the same fingers I use to sip whiskey.

My suggestion to the OP is that he not buy knives with CF scales, and also not worry about what others buy.

Not sick of Carbon Fiber at all.

I happen to really like CF. There are so many permutations of CF, that are soooooooo cool!

Don't know about being sick of carbon fiber, but clearly it must be good if Chinese makers like SanRenMu are starting to produce some models with it.

Don't know about being sick of carbon fiber, but clearly it must (finally be cheap enough) if Chinese makers like SanRenMu are starting to produce some models with it.

Fixed it for you.

Because a SanRenMu with 8cr13mov steel and carbon fiber scales for only $10 is a real steal.

Again, how does that make CF good? Seems like as usual the counterfeiters/clones/knock of experts are just doing something that has become popular to make money. I know SRM have moved away from cloning but lots of others are doing CF too who still counterfeit.

I'd pay more for g10 or a nice micarta....

Theres a difference between a layer or two of carbon fiber and several layers of carbon fiber.. in cost at least. most of the cheap stuff is full of ugly voids also. and 8cr13... yuk

Expensive brown plastic the color of shirt. And because it is so strong, it can do it's job with much thinner pieces, the color of carp, than the older materials it replaced.

So now, I have really expensive knives that literally look like shirt, and are much thinner than the knives I bought 25 years ago.

Really THIN knives are hard to hold onto, while you are using them. And most, but not quite all scales made of carp colored carbon fiber are completely SMOOTH. <snip>

You lost me...

Doesn't this entire thread belong in "Whine & Cheese"?

On topic, if you are requiring a slabs tactile feedback to give you the grip you need, you are buying the wrong knives.

Ergos = traction.
Small added stipling, canvas micarta, or other additions are just an aid, not an end all be all...

Take a Becker handle for example, there are videos of a guy covering his hand and the handle in oil then stabbing a tree trunk to show the smoothness of the stock handle doesn't equate to a lack of grip because the handle design is where the traction comes from.
Furthermore, the added traction of stipling will likely end up making hot spots, not aiding traction unless gloves are being worn.

Same goes for a ZT 770, 392, and plenty if other knives.
If you are going to complain about a lack of grip due t a handle material, please have an opinion that take into account models that fly in the face of your argument so you can have a conclusive arguement.

Troll OP spotted!
Agreed. Obviously.

In terms of looks, with it's different composition, weave patterns, and colors, I think carbon fiber is the modern-day mokume. How it looks in the end varies by application and personal taste but isn't that true of everything? Literally everything?

Personally, I am looking forward to lots more carbon fiber.

I get the feeling the OP is confusing G10 with CF.

There does seem to be a trend towards coyote brown, desert tan, and olive green G10 lately. I'm not a big fan of G10 either; I agree than linen micarta generally looks better.

Also, I've noticed that some "CF" is really a thin veneer of carbon weave bonded to G10 or something similar. I've seen that in some models by Spyderco and others. To me, that looks really cheap and ugly.

Not trying to feed the trolls - this post makes a little more sense if the OP fell victim to autocorrect...
Take the R out of the first word
Swap the order of the R and the A in the second word.

I don't necessarily agree (two of my favorite knives are CF).
I am a huge fan of micarta too, even if it isn't a thermoplastic:D
