Anyone know of a nice titanium ring for self-defense.

Then why is the title of the thread, "Anyone know of a nice titanium ring for self-defense?"
Because self-defense would go under my "anything else" philosophy in a SD situation. Just like people want their knives looking good and not just pure function. It can be both nice looking and have some function.

Also the title "Anyone know of a nice titanium ring for self-defense, but its primary function would be for a conversational piece and..." would not fit on the title space.

Let's see. A ring's first priority is as jewelry to most people, with the added bonus that it might be useful if it comes to blows with a fellow member of our fair society. Somewhat limited purpose, and not ideal for SD, but its better than nothing I suppose.

NOW, change the question:

"Anyone know of a nice KNIFE for self defense?"

Well, a KNIFE's first priority is as a matter separator, with the added bonus that it TOO might be useful if it comes to blows with a fellow member of our fair society. Somewhat more utility than jewelry, still not ideal for SD, but certainly better than nothing I'd say.

Gee, NO connection there now IS THERE ?!?!? :barf:

Here is what btboone and I finally came up with. The ring is pure titanium. It will be slightly different but this pic is basically shows what the final product will look like. I call it the BS RING.

Get in touch with Justin at Ranger Knives.

He makes a wicked ring out of Ti as well as other materials (buffalo horn is what I got, wife has Ti)

Don't know if they are on the website, but I know they sell them. Normally have them at Blade.

I did get a hold of Justin and he emailed me some pics. His rings are wicked! I asked him if a ring could be made but be a little "toned down".

Hey Deathshead, can you post, or email pics of Justin's ring? I'm interested but I don't want to bother him if its something I can't use. Thanks!

LOL..
Rings with blades are made for " slapping and grabbing" NOT punching.
All you have to do is "rub" the opponents arm, hand, face etc.
Just say I dont want to fight, offer to shake his hand and take his wrist apart ....

So, if this is the case, then you're essentially walking around 24/7 with a couple of razor blades on the back of your hand? What happens when someone shakes your hand with good intentions and cuts up their fingers, etc.?

Seems like if it's sharp enough to cut someone up that bad there's a lot of risk of incidental contact causing similair damage on a day to day basis.

It kind of seems like there's some wavering on these by those that are into them. One moment they're 'fun conversation pieces' (which I can understand) and the next they're a last line of genuine self defense.

Note: I'm not trying to stir the pot too much here, merely looking to pin you guys for the purpose of genuine debate. Hope I don't get anyone too riled inadvertantly.

I agree with this guy. I went to a site recommended by forum member. It is posted on this thread. There were rings with blades in them. Well I agree they would be more effective for SD, but it is something you plan to wear everyday. The ring's blade was removable and was recommended that it was placed some place like your wallet. I wanted something to first, look good and second, be still convenient and wearable on an day to day basis.

IF I were going to wear a ring that might be used for SD (and that was my thinking behind choosing said ring), then I'd want it to be both. I, personally, like the Titan ring, but not for SD. Sure, it could be used to save a little wear and tear on the knuckles I suppose, but I happen to think its a very handsome ring (in an industrial sort of way). I'm not sure what a "last line of 'genuine' self defense is" however. I mean, to me something is a genuine last line of self defense when I'm left with whatever's available. NOTE that at THAT point you've basically crossed over into a FUBAR situation.

I think the intent of the thread was to ask about rings that look good, but could be used for SD IF YOU HAD TO- that is if you've crossed over into the FUBAR situation.

I like what SpyderJon had to say. The ring is very industrial. It was made from a gear shaft of a fighter jet. It is by no means a good option for self-defense, but it still remains an option if you loose your gun, knife, kubotan, ninja stars, etc.
It is, first and foremost, a great looking ring.
By the way, it took only a few hours for my BS Ring to be made. It is being shipped to me as we speak.

Here is a pic emailed to my be Justin from Ranger Knives. I am interested in the one on the right. If I bought one, I would like the point toned down a bit to make it a little easier to live with like putting my hands in my pockets and other everyday activities.
I personally like the ring I designed better, but this one is very nice to and it is priced right. Around $50 he said.

Yup, that is what the wife has. Mine is same config, but in buffalo horn.

She puts hers on only while driving in case of any "encounters"....

As soon as you deliberately sharpen an edge, the item becomes a weapon with all of the potential legal implications of that. If it's just a heavy ring with maybe some "artistic" ridges on it, well then you still have "plausible deniability."

have you ever heard of an oss tire slasher? The oss had a ring as a part of there standard blade kit that had a curved blade on the top, the oss would use it to disable the tires of a potential pursuer during an escape attempt or just to cause logistical problems for the enemy. But the history and use of this weapon tells us something else, it was more of a tool than a weapon for the reason stated above as a knife it is not practical to have it afixed to your finger and its blade or point bare. That is why a small sheathed fixed blade is the route to take for defense.

Deathheads picture from ranger knives, the one on the left looks just like the oss tire slasher. very cool, not on the ranger knives web page though.

Is this what you guys are talking about? Hmmm, maybe a little too obvious. :D

Cool looking knife. It does have a ring, but I would consider it a knife. As a matter of fact, Justin's ring will probably be considered a knife also if the point is sharpened.

Any idea what it might cost to do a ring like the G. Gordon Liddy Fighting Ring?

I just saw that ring today. It is nicely done, but it doesn't look any different from other stainless steel rings that I have seen. Also, I think that ring was $200. Unlike steel that can be molded, titanium rings are machined from solid billet then radius cutters mill the ring at different axes up to a fourth axis I believe.
Here is one that I got made. I like it, but it could use some improvements. I have an improved version coming in the mail anytime know. I have a computer generated image of it, but I would like to post cool pics of it instead when it comes in.
